The Alias B Band

Bree and Paul in The Sportsmans in 1979

The Alias B Band was born out of the break up of the Boulder Band at the end of 1978. One of my earliest memories of The Sportsmans Inn is of passing on the bus one evening at 6.30, when the Boulder Band held the regular Monday slot. Although it was one and a half hours before doors would open at 8 and only the same length after most people had finished work, the queue already formed snaked completely around the building, such was the following the Boulder had built up in just a year.

In early 1979 Bree Harris and Paul Fairclough hooked up with guitarist Robbie Overson and keyboard player James Delaney to form the Alias B. After playing for a time on different weeknights at the Sportsmans they finally made Friday nights their own in early 1981, a spot they never relinquished until the pub closed its doors in 1984.

One of the most musical bands to play regularly in The Sportsmans, with consummate playing fronted by Bree's sublime vocals, covering a breadth of styles from rock to jazz and blues, the Alias B built up a huge and loyal following over their 6 year residency. The four original members listed above will all be in Kielys on June 17th, joined by John Kearns on bass. Anyone who has heard 'Ocean' just once will no doubt make sure to be there.
